ReliOn (acquired by Plug Power) is a world leader in the development and marketing of modular, fault-tolerant, Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell technology. They market a range of stationary fuel cells for emergency and backup power requirements, uninterruptible power supplies, digital power needs and a variety of off grid power requirements. They serve private and public entities as diverse as telecommunications, energy, transportation, and government.
Their PEM fuel cells are commercially available today. They have sold and delivered their fuel cells in the U.S. and abroad, and count among their customers major government communication sites, telecommunications providers and utilities.

Mr. Shank is a senior-level executive with over twenty-five years of progressive and successful experience in sales and sales management of telecommunications and alternative energy products. He has most recently been promoting fuel cells and advanced lithium ion battery technology for Vertiv (previously Emerson Network Power) as a Senior Director of Business Development for their Data Center Solutions products.
Prior to forming Energy Transitions he had accountability for the North American promotion of IdaTech's reformer based back-up power hydrogen fuel cell systems to wireline and wireless telecommunications carriers, government agencies, airlines, railroads, utility companies and other discerning markets desiring to protect mission critical sites from power outages.
IdaTech (acquired by Ballard Power) developed and manufactured clean and reliable PEM fuel cell solutions for telecommunication, commercial and industrial backup power from 1 to 15 kW. IdaTech's technologies provided solutions for a wide range of applications for remote and off grid power.
Mr. Shank was previously the Vice President of Global Sales for the fuel cell company ReliOn. Before that he held the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Paceon, a fiber optic access division of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation offering passive optical network systems to North American service providers.
Mr. Shank’s International experience comes from his term as Director of Global Sales for Tekelec’s SS7 and wireless diagnostic division. His well-rounded and diverse background includes sales management positions at Hitachi (ATM and SONET systems) and Nortel (digital switching systems).
An honors graduate of Southern Illinois University, Mr. Shank derived the foundation of his leadership principles and technical knowledge from service in the U. S. Navy. Bill is the founder of Energy Transitions.
